Baysox Right-Hander Lucas Long: New Role 'Keeps Me On My Toes'

In 2016, Orioles minor-league pitcher Lucas Long had success as a starter pitching to a 3.80 ERA over 146.2 innings and 27 starts across two levels -- Single-A Delmarva and High-A Frederick. It was a continuation of what Long had done his entire baseball career; he was a starter in high school, at the University of San Diego and for much of his first three years in the Orioles' system.

This season, the right-handed sinkerballer has shifted mostly to a bullpen role at Double-A Bowie, a transition he's handled well. He's has a 1.68 ERA over 59 innings, with 50 strikeouts against 11 walks and two home runs allowed.
