Longtime former Gilman football coach Biff Poggi is returning to Baltimore to take over as head coach at St. Frances Academy this coming season, PressBox has learned through multiple sources with knowledge of the situation.
Poggi put together a remarkable resume at his alma mater, Gilman, where he spent nearly three decades as a football coach, including 19 seasons as head coach. He led the Greyhounds to 13 Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association "A" conference titles and compiled a 135-43 record as head coach.
Poggi left Gilman in 2016 to join the University of Michigan's football staff as an associate head coach/special advisor. According to Michigan's website, Poggi's job was to work with Jim Harbaugh, the Wolverines' head coach, on matters concerning strategy and organizational structure. Poggi's son, Henry, played fullback, tight end and special teams at Michigan from 2014-2016.
