The new head coach of the University of Maryland's baseball program will have some spots to fill on the 2018 roster.
Maryland, which is in the process of hiring its next coach after previous head coach John Szefc accepted the job as Virginia Tech's head coach June 9, had six of its players selected during the Major League Baseball draft June 12-14.
The selection of Maryland junior shortstop Kevin Smith by the Toronto Blue Jays kicked off another strong draft for the Terps, who now have had 21 players taken in the draft during the past four seasons. Junior pitcher Brian Shaffer joined Smith as a second-day pick in the 40-round draft.
