The Big Ten's 14 women's volleyball teams won't begin their seasons until late August. But several of the conference's top players will get an early start on the 2017 season when they travel to four European countries during the Big Ten Volleyball Foreign Tour from June 17-28.
The 14-player squad will be coached by the University of Maryland's Steve Aird. The Maryland mentor, who is entering his fourth season as the Terps' head coach, will helm a Big Ten squad that will travel to the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Italy and Austria.
"My selection was a very informal process," said Aird, who has already visited every destination on the team's itinerary during previous international volleyball trips. "It was something that I was interested in. The Big Ten office gave its blessing, and our cadre of coaches was all for it."
