The Annabel Lee Tavern is the Latest Baltimore Restaurant to Shutter its Doors

“Despite our best efforts, it is with a heavy heart to let you know that we will be closing our doors for the last time on Sunday, May 28th,” owner Kurt Bragunier wrote in a message on Facebook. “Thank you for your patronage over the past decade. Make sure to come in this weekend for one last hoorah!”

Named after Edgar Allan Poe’s last complete poem, about the death of a beautiful woman, the tavern opened in 2007 at 601 S. Clinton Street, with Poe quotes and reminders everywhere. A raven hangs outside, and all the drinks were named after works by Poe.

The farewell message has drawn hundreds of comments and triggered a flood of memories.
