Ed Brake

Ellin & Tucker, the Baltimore-based public accounting and business consulting firm, announced today that Edwin Brake, managing director of the firm, is the 2017 honoree of the Dyslexia Tutoring Program (DTP). Brake will be honored at DTP’s Wishes, Dreams and Imagination Gala for his commitment to improving the Greater Baltimore community. The gala will be held on Thursday, October 19at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront.

“Every year, we choose someone to honor at the gala who has a proven commitment to the community and a track record for helping those in need — Ed Brake embodies that description, so selecting him as our 2017 honoree was an easy choice,” said Marcy Kolodny, chief executive officer of the Dyslexia Tutoring Program. “We are appreciative of the support Ed and his firm have given the Dyslexia Tutoring Program over the years and have no doubt that he will continue to make immeasurable strides in Baltimore and beyond.”

Brake says, “The work that the Dyslexia Tutoring Program is doing to improve the lives of Baltimore families cannot be understated. Improving literacy is critical to empowering Baltimore residents and enhancing our local workforce, and it directly supports Ellin & Tucker’s mission to better the community. I am humbled to be this year’s honoree.”

Ellin & Tucker has supported the Dyslexia Tutoring Program for more than a decade through corporate giving and board memberships.

Brake currently serves on the board of directors for a number of organizations including: the Economic Alliance of Greater Baltimore, serving as past chairperson and current executive committee member; the Downtown Partnership of Baltimore, serving as a member of the board of directors; and the Maryland Zoological Society, serving as past chairperson and current member of the executive committee and board of trustees. Brake recently sat on the Mayor’s transition team as a member of the BDC Agency Review Committee.

The Wishes, Dreams and Imagination Gala is an annual fundraising event that will help DTP continue to teach low-income children and adults with dyslexia and other language-based learning disabilities how to read, free of charge. The 2017 gala will include cocktails and dinner, a live auction and a testimonial from a DTP student. DTP will also draw the winning raffle ticket for one person to win one of the following cars: a Porsche, BMW, Audi or two Mini Coopers.
