Gilman Kindergarten Teacher, Rakiya Brown, Receives Klingenstein Fellowship

Gilman Kindergarten teacher Rakiya Brown has been awarded a fellowship to the 2017 Summer Institute for Early Career Teachers, which is offered by the Klingenstein Center for Independent School Leadership of Teachers College, Columbia University. This distinguished award is granted annually to 75 educators who have demonstrated potential for excellence. The 2017 Summer Institute will include teachers from schools in 26 states in addition to participants from Canada, Taiwan and Thailand.

Brown comes from a family of educators and has five years of teaching experience. She holds a B.A. in anthropology from Bowdoin College and an M.F.A. in dance from Hollins University. Her broad background serves her well as a kindergarten teacher; subjects she teaches include language arts, math and social studies.
