With junior center Michal Cekovsky out for the rest of the season, it gives the University of Maryland men's basketball team one fewer option down low, but it’s also another big blow for Cekovsky, whose fractured left ankle is the fourth injury he's sustained since the preseason.
"I feel badly for Ceko as he has endured a number of injuries throughout the season," Maryland head coach Mark Turgeon said in a press release Feb. 20. "It felt like he was really starting to turn the corner and his best basketball was ahead of him. We anticipate a full recovery for next season, and we will be there to support him through the rehabilitation process."
Cekovsky injured his hamstring in the preseason and then missed the first four games of the season with a sprained right foot. He came back to play nine straight games, which included 16-point performances against Kansas State Nov. 26 and Howard Dec. 7, and a 15-point effort against Jacksonville State Dec. 12.
