Can The Orioles Fool The Predictors Once Again?

The Baltimore Orioles are used to being considered noncontenders. This year, FanGraphs projects the Orioles will win 79 games and finish last in the American League East.

A year ago, FanGraphs forecasted 78 wins for the Orioles. It ended up being 11 wins short.

Year after year, analytical publications have missed on the Orioles. It's a sore subject around the team, who embrace sabermetrics.

At FanFest's media forum, Jan. 28, a fan asked why the Orioles are always rated poorly by sabermetricians, and why the projections are so often wrong. It was one of the best questions I've heard during those sessions.
