Jemicy School's Penny War Raises Money for Dyslexia Tutoring Program

Jemicy Students collect more than $1400 in two weeks for tutoring program

Jemicy School’s Lower Middle School recently conducted a Penny War, the purpose of which was to raise money to donate to The Dyslexia Tutoring Program, which provides tutoring services to students in Maryland, especially those in Baltimore City.

Each group, JE through Y, competed to collect the most pennies, while at the same time, trying to sabotage the others by adding larger coins or bills. Math classes built lessons around counting the coins at the end of the two-week competition period.

The school, located in Owings Mills, raised a total of $1422.87. The winner of Penny Wars was C Group, with a collection totaling $378.67. Marcy Kolodny, head of The Dyslexia Tutoring Program (and a former Jemicy development director), was presented with a check on the LMS Campus and thanked the students for their efforts and worthy mission.
