With news the Orioles have reached an agreement with catcher Welington Castillo Dec. 14, it appears the team has moved on from Matt Wieters.
Wieters, who spent eight seasons with the Orioles, was one of the top, if not the best catcher in team history.
Now that minor league prospect Chance Sisco appears nearly ready to succeed Wieters, the Orioles needed a bridge, and Castillo, who was non-tendered by the Arizona Diamondbacks Dec. 2, is apparently ready to fill that role.
According to FanRagSports.com, Castillo's agreement, which was confirmed by an industry source, is for one-year at $6 million with a player option for $7 million in 2018.
