Stevenson Proves To Be Right Place For Sara Tarbert

Sara Tarbert was a proven college basketball player at the NCAA Division I level. During her first year at UMBC, she earned a starting role and received the America East's Rookie of the Year honor after averaging 13.8 points and 7.1 rebounds per game.

But there was more to Tarbert's life than competing at the highest level. Although she had been playing basketball since the fourth grade, Tarbert always wanted a career in nursing and transferred to a school that would help her get there faster.

"I had a very successful year at UMBC, and I'm grateful for that season," Tarbert said. "But I just don't think it was a good fit for me. I wanted to study nursing, and I would have been at UMBC for four years on scholarship then had to go to nursing school for two more years. I had visited Stevenson and would have come here if I hadn't gotten the offer [from UMBC]."
