The MLB Winter Meetings have come and gone for the Orioles, and as many expected, they signed no free agents nor did they make any trades.
They did, as expected, add two players in the Rule 5 draft. They've selected at least one player in every Rule 5 draft for the past 11 years, the longest stretch in the major leagues.
Two outfielders were picked, Aneury Tavarez, a 24-year-old lefty hitter who was plucked from the Boston Red Sox's organization, and Anthony Santander, a 22-year-old switch-hitter from the Cleveland Indians' minor league system.
Tavarez hit .335 with seven home runs and 47 RBIs in 106 games for Double-A Portland in 2016. He also played five games for Triple-A Pawtucket, and he stole 20 bases in 31 attempts between both levels.
