The Baltimore Orioles weren't going to be a contender to land left-handed starter Chris Sale, and they're not going to get Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen, who still could go to the Washington Nationals.

But remember, it was during the MLB Winter Meetings just two years ago that the Chicago White Sox, who traded Sale to the Boston Red Sox Dec. 6, were judged to be December's "cool kids."

They acquired starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija and signed reliever David Robertson as a pricey free agent and looked to be contenders. Instead, they suffered through two losing seasons and now look at a rebuild.
