Down, 60-48, against Oklahoma State with more than 11 minutes remaining Dec. 3, head coach Mark Trugeon decided to try to steal a few minutes of rest for star junior guard Melo Trimble, who would certainly be needed in crunch time if Maryland could trim the lead.

Turgeon went with freshman Anthony Cowan at the point, with junior guard Jaylen Brantley off the ball. Brantley validated Turgeon's decision. He found senior forward Damonte Dodd for an alley-oop just before the shot clock expired to cut the Cowboys' lead, 60-52, with 9:58 remaining. A possession later, a bucket by Brantley cut the lead, 60-54, with 9:35 left, and a Brantley steal thwarted Oklahoma State's next possession.

With the Cowboys' lead halved, Trimble returned and eventually made the game-winning free throws with nine seconds remaining. But it was Brantley who got Maryland back in the ballgame during the second half. Brantley scored 12 points on 4-of-11 shooting on the night while grabbing a pair of rebounds.
