During the final moments of Stevenson University's 28-10 victory against host Lycoming Nov. 12, Mustang head coach Ed Hottle wasn't thinking about the future. Filling his mind were thoughts of the journey the Stevenson football program had undertaken during the last six years.
"I thought about all the guys who had come through here," said Hottle, the only head football coach during Stevenson's six-year football history. "I remembered [original players] Tim Campbell, Emmanuel Paul and Donnell Brown, who stuck with us all the way. I thought about the staff that helped get it going and the first bowl win that was a significant step for us."
In six years, Stevenson has gone from playing intramural scrimmages on a practice field in 2010 to its first Middle Atlantic Conference championship and berth in the NCAA Division III playoffs. A 2014 triumph versus Bethany (W.Va.) in the ECAC Southeast Bowl and last year's victory against Muhlenberg in the inaugural MAC-Centennial Conference Series laid the foundation for this season's ascent to the conference title and NCAA invitation.
