Mark Turgeon: L.G. Gill 'Was A Must-Get For Us'

With forward Jake Layman graduating and big men Diamond Stone and Robert Carter Jr. deciding to leave Maryland early, Maryland basketball head coach Mark Turgeon and his staff were left with holes in the frontcourt ahead of the 2016-17 season.

Turgeon had centers in Damonte Dodd and Michal Cekovsky to replace Stone, but very little depth to replace Carter and Layman at the four.

Luckily for Turgeon, L.G. Gill announced his intention to transfer from Duquesne in April. Gill, who mostly played the four but also some three with the Dukes, averaged 7.1 points and 4.3 rebounds throughout three years at Duquesne. Gill graduated from Duquesne this past spring, meaning he'd be immediately eligible to play with the Terps.
