With spread offenses, more downfield throws and higher point totals than ever, there's no question pro football has evolved into a speed- and perimeter-oriented game.

But for any team, the heart of the sport is the unit that makes such highlights possible, the offensive line.

For all of the Ravens' problems that manifested themselves during a four-game pre-bye losing streak -- a spotty pass rush, a lack of back-end defensive speed and ill-timed penalties, among others -- a dearth of up-front continuity has served to drag the team down faster than any other element.
