The Stevenson University football team had already improved its record during each of the last three seasons. But the Mustangs had never started the season with seven straight wins.
A convincing 19-0 shutout of Middle Atlantic Conference power Delaware Valley Oct. 22 put Stevenson's record at 7-0 for the first time and moved the Mustangs closer to their first NCAA bid during the program's six years of existence. Stevenson's triumph boosted its conference mark to 6-0, one game ahead of second-place Albright and Widener and two games up against Delaware Valley and Kings (Pa.). Since the Mustangs have already beaten Albright, Widener and Delaware Valley, they will need to win just two of their final three games to reach the NCAAs.
"Our coordinators do an incredible job of putting our players in the right positions, and our players do an incredible job of executing their vision," said head coach Ed Hottle, who has guided the program throughout its six-year history. "It is versatility, in both players and schemes, which allow us to do what we do."
