It' been a long, strange trip for Towson quarterback Ellis Knudson.
The redshirt sophomore was slightly edged out of razor-thin quarterback competitions in the summer of 2015 and 2016. At first, it was by fifth-year senior quarterback Connor Frazier. But being the younger player, Knudson had the luxury of knowing there would be next year, spending the 2015 season learning the Tigers' offense and familiarizing himself with the program.
But in 2016, the starting job went to redshirt sophomore quarterback Morgan Mahalak, a highly touted transfer from the University of Oregon with the same amount of eligibility remaining. At this point, it appeared Knudson was destined to be a career backup quarterback.
