The addition of Gordon Wild has lifted the Maryland men's soccer program to the top spot in the national rankings.
Wild's early season production, and a lockdown defensive unit that has allowed seven goals in seven games, have guided Maryland to its first No. 1 ranking since the week of Oct. 30, 2012.
The Terps' ascension in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's Sept. 20 poll can be largely credited to Wild's fast start. The sophomore leads the Big Ten with eight goals, 17 points, three game-winning goals and 31 shots. His latest game-winner propelled the Terps to a 3-2 overtime victory Sept. 18 against Penn State. He also knotted the score, 2-2, on a penalty kick in the 84th minute.
