Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace Hotel Appoints Germain Haro as Executive Chef

9/21/16

Haro brings years of leadership in the restaurant industry and a dedication to the Marriott’s brand

Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace Hotel is pleased to announce Germain Haro as its new Executive Chef. Haro will be responsible for implementing the hotel’s new à La Carte in-room service program, shrinking prices and cutting service time to less than 15 minutes. He will also oversee major renovations and menu changes at the hotel’s Ground Floor Bar, banquet halls and the property’s marquee restaurant, Watertable.

“Germain’s executive leadership skills and dedication to fresh, locally sourced ingredients made him the clear choice to be Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace’s next Executive Chef,” said John Tiffey, director of hotel sales at Renaissance Harborplace Hotel. “Throughout his career he’s executed high profile events, from small too large and proven, time and again that he can uphold Marriott’s strict standards of quality while inventing culinary creations and providing unexpected discoveries to each guest.”

A fifteen-year employee of Marriott International, Haro got his start in the restaurant industry as a dishwasher at a family-owned pizzeria in his hometown of Long Island, New York. While in culinary school, he met a Marriott representative at a job fair and earned an internship at Marriott Kapalua Bay, Maui, HI. Since then, he has worked at Marriotts in Baltimore, Washington DC, Arlington and Bethesda, rising from a line cook to his most recent job as Executive Chef at the Bethesda Marriott.

Haro graduated in 2001 from the Culinary Institute of America at Hyde Park, New York. He will manage a team of 32 Marriott ambassadors.

“Ever since I was a kid, I recognized food’s unique ability to create joy and bring people together in an amiable environment,” said Chef Haro. “Throughout my career, I’ve strived to remain true to a core culinary philosophy: Keep it simple, don’t overthink it and let the food speak to you. As I start the next chapter of my journey with Marriott, I’m excited to utilize my new creative freedom to produce even greater culinary concepts.”

Haro, who gets his passion for cooking from his father, resides in Catonsville, Md. with his wife, also a Marriott brands employee.
