The Towson University women's volleyball team is used to strong starts. The goal is to finish the season the same way.
Following a tight, five-set victory against Maryland in the championship match of the Georgetown Classic Sept. 10, the Tigers have jumped to a 9-1 start for the third consecutive season. The Tigers won nine of their first 10 matches during the 2014 campaign and started 13-1 last year.
Towson, whose only setback was a 3-1 defeat at Seton Hall Sept. 3, swept three sets from Princeton and beat host Georgetown, 3-1, to set up a championship encounter with Maryland. During the title match, the Tigers took the first two games, but the Terps won the next two sets. Maryland took a 13-12 lead late in the fifth and deciding set, but Towson scored the last three points to beat the Big Ten squad.
