The Orioles clawed their way to a series victory against their Wild Card rivals, the Tigers, Sept. 9-11. Now, they'll need to continue flooring the gas pedal for their next three games.
The Birds' unrelenting September schedule will carry them into Boston for a three-game series beginning Sept. 12, pitting them against a Red Sox club that holds a two-game lead over the O's and Blue Jays atop the American League East.
The O's are fully aware of what's at stake. A series win would keep them hot on Boston's heels in the AL East race; a series loss would drop them at least three games back with just over two weeks remaining in the schedule. It's a series that may very well decide whether the Orioles have any chance of winning a division title in 2016.
