This summer, former Orioles outfielder Chris Dickerson was sitting in an MLB office in New York, doing some broadcasting for the league and thinking his playing days were behind him.
Dickerson, 34, spent seven seasons in the majors with five different teams, including a stop with Baltimore in 2013, but has been out of the game for the last year after undergoing extensive shoulder surgery in June 2015.
Dickerson hasn't played in a major league game since Sept. 5, 2014.
"I had decided to wrap it up and maybe pursue something else, and one of those things was broadcasting," Dickerson said on Glenn Clark Radio Aug. 31. "I was lucky enough to do some appearances with MLB Network during the summer. ... I was sitting there behind that desk in New York and thinking, 'OK, this is what I wanted to do.' And finally able to accept, you know, not being a player anymore. ... I had no intention of coming back. ... I was probably just lazy with the retirement paperwork."
