It's time to give Vince McMahon the benefit of the doubt.
For years, a significant portion of WWE's fan base criticized the 71-year-old chairman and CEO for being out of touch with his audience. So when WWE branded its creative direction as being a "New Era" this past spring, it was met with understandable cynicism.
The evidence is mounting, however, that the "New Era" isn't an empty slogan, especially as it pertains to the main-event picture.
Perhaps the greatest example of WWE's philosophical shift regarding its top tier took place during the Aug. 29 episode of "Monday Night Raw," when Kevin Owens won the vacant WWE Universal Title in a Fatal 4-Way Elimination Match.
