On two separate occasions many years ago, Baltimore Colts fans didn't get a chance to see their team finish its preseason schedule before a devastating injury to a signal-caller not only hurt the team's short-term prospects but damaged its long-term future.
These days, no team would even think of putting a Joe Flacco or Tom Brady on the field for the final preseason game, which comes up for the Ravens in New Orleans Sept. 1.
