Wins on the road have been hard for O's right-hander Kevin Gausman to come by, but he finally got one at a good time for the slumping Orioles.
Gausman dominated the Yankees through seven shutout innings Aug. 28, snapping a 25-start winless drought on the road that dated back more than two full years. Gausman's last road win as a starter came on Aug. 17, 2014 in Cleveland.
"He pitched well today," manager Buck Showalter told MASN. "He's right where he needs to be in the development of a good major league pitcher. He was solid."
The 5-0 victory helped the Birds restore order after a pair of blowout losses during the first two games of the series, when the Yankees scored a total of 27 runs on 36 hits. It also helped the O's build some slight breathing room for the second wild card spot, as the three teams hottest on their tail -- the Tigers, Mariners and Astros -- all lost Aug. 28.
