Loyal readers know I am bullish when it comes to outfielder Carlos Gomez. The 30-year-old went through a three-year stretch from 2012-14 in which he averaged around 20 home runs and would push 40 stolen bases (he actually finished with 40 in 2013). Then 2015 came, and the player who went in the first round in many drafts had a huge power outage and finished with less than 20 stolen bases between two teams. At his age, he was primed to be a bounce-back player. Well, that never happened, as he was even worse this season, batting .210 with five home runs and 13 stolen bases in 85 games for the Houston Astros.
The Astros eventually released the outfielder, and Gomez landed with the Texas Rangers. After some time in the minors, Gomez is back, and in his first game with the Rangers Aug. 25, he hit a home run. It appears Gomez will get playing time with the Rangers, who are well on their way to winning the American League West. If a team heading to the playoffs is willing to give Gomez another chance, so should fantasy owners. Gomez is only 45 percent owned in Yahoo! Sports leagues, and there's a chance he will finally look like the player he was when he was one of the best in fantasy baseball.
