Last August, Maryland's Perry Hills won the Terps' quarterback competition but was benched during the team's second game of the year, a matchup against Bowling Green at Maryland Stadium. Hills eventually earned back his starting job last season, but never got on track, much like the rest of the team.
This year, Hills, now a senior, entered spring ball and fall camp in another competition for the starting quarterback job. Hills once again won the competition and will start at quarterback in the season opener against Howard Sept. 3, Maryland announced Aug. 24.
"After an open competition through the spring and the first two-plus weeks of training camp, we're excited to move forward with Perry Hills as our starting quarterback," Terps head coach DJ Durkin said in a press release. "Perry has embraced this challenge from day one and has put in the work and shown improvement every day. He's grasped our offense and the way we want to do things and has shown tremendous leadership."
