Ravens' Overall Third-Down Fortunes Need To Improve

Usually, coaches' memories are more vivid when it comes to losses than wins.

But even in the wake a 22-19 preseason-opening win against the Carolina Panthers Aug. 11, the Ravens' staff has had plenty of negatives through which to parse.

One that reared its head yet again was the team's less-than-stellar third-down play on both sides of the ball, particularly on defense.

"What we didn't do well was we didn't play well on third down," defensive coordinator Dean Pees said. "We had plenty of opportunities to get off the field and just didn't do it. We have to improve in that area.
