It's amazing the difference a few innings can make.
Heading into the seventh inning of their series finale in San Francisco Aug. 14, the Orioles appeared to be limping their way to the end of their 10-game road trip. They trailed the Giants, 7-1, after an ineffective start from lefty Wade Miley, while the offense was shut down by veteran righty Johnny Cueto. It seemed a near certainty the O's would lose their second consecutive series and finish their trip at an uninspiring 4-6.
The Orioles, though, had other ideas. From the seventh inning through the ninth, they exploded for seven runs -- capped by Jonathan Schoop's go-ahead, two-out, three-run homer in the ninth -- to pull off their largest comeback of the season and shock the sellout crowd at AT&T Park.
"That was fun, huh?" manager Buck Showalter told MASN. "We had a little feeling there. Our guys wanted to give ourselves a chance. … Our guys just refused to give in. I'm proud of them."
