Ben Franklin High School has established itself as one of the up-and-coming volleyball programs in Baltimore City.
The Bayhawks won the Maryland Public Secondary School Athletics Association Class 1A South regional championship in 2015, its second in three years. Ben Franklin was also the only team from Baltimore City to win a MPSSAA regional title in 2015.
In 2015, the team dropped just one set in its three regional contests. After regional play, Ben Franklin lost to McDonough, 3-0, in the 1A tournament semifinal round.
"Being a first-year coach, you have high goals, and want to make sure you set high goals for your players," said Richard Jackson, who is entering his second season as the Bayhawks' head coach. "I thought a regional championship was possible because we were a senior laden team last year, but I wasn't saying it was that or bust. Mostly, I wanted to make sure our team was progressing."
