Orioles' Top Five Trade-Deadline Deals Since 1986

The Orioles swung a pair of deals at the Aug. 1 MLB trade deadline that have had mixed results thus far. Veteran left-hander Wade Miley pitched fairly well but lost his first start as an Oriole Aug. 4, while returning fan favorite Steve Pearce suffered a right elbow strain Aug. 7 after going 2-for-9 during his first three games back with the Birds.

It's too early to tell how well the Miley and Pearce deals will turn out for the Orioles, but the O's have struck plenty of memorable trade-deadline swaps throughout the years. Let's explore some of the best trades the O's have made within two weeks of the July 31 trade deadline.

For simplicity's sake, we'll only consider deals that occurred since 1986, when MLB instituted July 31 as the non-waiver trade deadline. Prior to that year, the trade deadline was June 15. So one of the most famous midseason deals in franchise history -- when the club acquired future Orioles Hall of Fame members Scott McGregor, Rick Dempsey and Tippy Martinez as part of a 10-player trade with the New York Yankees -- isn't eligible for this list.
