Why Orioles Fans Shouldn't Hate Mark Teixeira

I get it. Baltimore "hates" Mark Teixeira. Or at least Severna Park, Md., does, anyway.

There is no love lost between our city and its native son -- the Mount St. Joseph alum who will be retiring following his 14th MLB season. The bad blood, of course, dates back to the offseason between 2008 and 2009, when the Orioles were horrendous and the first baseman was a free agent. There was hope that, perhaps, the Anne Arundel County native could return home to save the franchise he presumably grew up rooting for.

As we all know, that didn't happen. And it wasn't enough that "Tex" didn't sign with the Orioles (whose reported offer was far less than what he signed for), he had the audacity to sign with the Yankees. Actually, he had the audacity to sign with the Yankees and then claim that he was a lifelong Yankees fan who grew up admiring Don Mattingly.
