The craziness of the Major League Baseball trade deadline is finally finished, and now it's time to focus on the remaining two months of the season and winning a championship. The deadline was so crazy that the amount of trades made from the beginning of June to the deadline were the most in at least 20 years.
This is the time to buckle down and find players who can give you a boost for the next six to eight weeks.
Waiver-Wire Targets:
Seattle Mariners Reliever Edwin Diaz -- I was surprised the right-hander wasn't more highly owned before being promoted to closer when Steve Cishek lost his job and eventually landed on the disabled list. Diaz has a 2.00 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and an eye-popping 53 strikeouts to eight walks in 27 innings pitched. Obviously, the 22-year-old is the waiver-wire pickup of the week, and those who participate in a waiver-wire budget format should feel free to spend whatever amount they have left on this talented pitcher. The Mariners are still fighting for the playoffs, so Diaz should have plenty of chances during the final two months. These players don't come around often this late in the season, so take advantage.
