Kendyl Scott's softball odyssey had already taken her from the California desert to the East Coast. During the summer of 2016, she went even further.
As her sophomore year at Towson University neared its end, Scott received a call from overseas. She had been selected to the Great Britain team that would participate in the 2016 WBSC XV Women's World Softball Championship.
Although Scott was born and raised in Southern California, her dual citizenship enabled her to compete for Great Britain. Her father, Peter, grew up in Harlow, England, about 30 miles north of London. Scott's father initially suggested his daughter try out for the Great Britain team.
"He contacted one of the directors of the team in the U.K., and we sent statistics and video," said Scott, who lives in the desert town of LaQuinta, Calif. "I flew to England in December to meet with the team's director, who told me that I was being looked at. They were able to catch some of Towson's games on the video live stream, and then I got the call that I had made the team."
