Another one of Orioles vice president of baseball operations Dan Duquette's starting pitching trade targets landed somewhere other than Baltimore.
San Diego reportedly traded right-handed pitcher Andrew Cashner to the Miami Marlins in exchange for four minor league prospects July 29. Since early June, the Padres have pruned away some significant payroll and star power, dealing right-hander James Shields to the White Sox, righty Fernando Rodney to the Marlins, outfielder Melvin Upton Jr. to the Blue Jays and now Cashner.
With Cashner off the table, MLBtraderumors.com is reporting the Orioles are targeting Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Erasmo Ramirez. He is an intriguing option. Ramirez is just 26 years old and is under team control through 2020.
