NFL training camp may have kicked off, but MLB has been busy with news, and we're still a couple days away from the trade deadline.
This is why all season I have preached that those who continue to follow their team throughout the entire year are usually rewarded at the end.
The San Diego Padres have been in full-sell mode, trading outfielder Melvin Upton Jr. to the Toronto Blue Jays and reportedly shipping starting pitcher Andrew Cashner to the Miami Marlins. Upton's value in the power department will receive a boost by playing in more hitter-friendly ballparks in the American League East, but the Blue Jays don't steal a lot of bases, so those numbers will go down. As for Cashner, he will still have strikeout upside, but he will always remain a backend of the rotation target.
The Chicago Cubs acquired closer Aroldis Chapman from the New York Yankees in a blockbuster trade, which obviously hurts those in an AL-specific format. Chapman will continue to have the same fantasy appeal as he did in the AL.
