The Orioles' difficult second-half schedule will take another exhausting turn July 27-29, when the O's play three days in a row in three different cities. After wrapping a home series against the Colorado Rockies July 27, the O's fly to Minnesota for one game against the Twins -- a makeup of a May 9 rainout -- and then head to Toronto July 29 to start a three-game series against the Blue Jays.
The whirlwind tour marks the ninth time in Orioles history they have a three-day stretch against three different opponents in three different cities. Here's a look at the previous times it's happened.
July 4-6, 1954
Opponents/Locations: vs. Tigers in Baltimore (July 4), at White Sox in Chicago (July 5 doubleheader), at Indians in Cleveland (July 6)
Approximate miles traveled: 913
Record: 1-3
Game highlights: During the Orioles' inaugural season in Baltimore, they actually played four games in three cities in a three-day span, with a doubleheader sandwiched between two other stops. The Birds won at home against Detroit thanks to right-hander Lou Kretlow's complete game, but they got swept in the White Sox twin bill -- scoring just one run during the two games -- and then were blown out, 11-3, in Cleveland the next day. During that Indians game, righty starter Joe Coleman didn't record an out, allowing all seven batters he faced to reach base and score.
