With the Major League Baseball non-waiver trade deadline (July 31) just around the corner, it would seem as though the Orioles would be likely to do...something. Not necessarily because they have to, but more because in-season trades are what they've typically done in the Dan Duquette era.
In 2012, the O's acquired designated hitter Jim Thome from the Phillies. In 2013, they picked up right-hander Scott Feldman from the Cubs (I've forgotten who they gave up in order to get him) as well as righty reliever Francisco Rodriguez from the Brewers and right-hander Bud Norris from the Astros. In 2014 it was lefty reliever Andrew Miller who came over from the Red Sox. In 2015, outfielder Gerardo Parra from the Brewers. Additionally, the team has made post-July 31st trades, acquiring the likes of pitcher Joe Saunders, outfielder Mike Morse, outfielder Alejandro de Aza and infielder Kelly Johnson.
Point being, they're probably going to make a trade. For the most part, you can understand it. The team's starting pitching is largely horrendous. They still don't have a true left-handed relief specialist and with the injury to outfielder Joey Rickard, perhaps they could use another bat off the bench.
