MVLS Announces Board Officers and Returning Officers for FY2017

Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service (MVLS), the largest provider of pro bono legal services to low-income Marylanders, today announced the elected officers of its Board of Directors for the 2017 fiscal year. The Board of Directors elected the new officers at its annual meeting on June 22, 2016.

MVLS’ officers for the 2017 fiscal year are:

  • Mary T. Keating, president
  • E. Hutchinson Robbins, Jr., vice president
  • Anthony P. Ashton, treasurer
  • Michael S. Clevenger, secretary


Mary T. Keating, a solo practitioner, was elected to board president. Ms. Keating is a Baltimore-based attorney offering representation in civil litigation matters throughout Baltimore and surrounding counties. Her areas of focus are on employment, business disputes, executive severance matters, real estate disputes and wills and estates.

E. Hutchinson (“Hutch”) Robbins, Jr., was elected to board vice president. Mr. Robbins is a principal at Miles & Stockbridge and heads the firm’s Commercial and Business Litigation practice group. He represents a broad array of businesses and individuals in business litigation, and he has extensive experience in all facets of state and federal trial and appellate practice. 

Anthony P. Ashton, a partner at DLA Piper was elected to board treasurer. Mr. Ashton practices in the area of commercial and tort litigation and represents individuals and local, national and multinational corporations in actions involving class actions, mass torts, consumer protection statutes, contract disputes, shareholders’ rights and fiduciary duties of officers and directors. Mr. Ashton heads the Diversity and Inclusion Committee for DLA Piper’s Baltimore offices. 

Michael S. Clevenger, vice president of BB&T Bank’s wealth management division was elected to board secretary. Mr. Clevenger is a personal trust specialist at BB&T in Westminster, where he handles trust real estate and manages investment accounts. 

MVLS Board of Directors also renewed three-year terms for board members: Anthony P. Ashton (DLA Piper), Dana McKee (Brown, Goldstein & Levy), Charles J. Morton, Jr. (Venable LLP) and Susan T. Preston (Goodell DeVries).
