The Baltimore Orioles have a starting pitching problem.
So obviously that's not exactly breaking news, but every story needs a lede. Through 84 games, Baltimore starting pitchers have allowed 4.62 runs per game, good for ninth in the American League. Even more troubling -- Birds starters have averaged 5.4 innings per start, a number so bad that in all of baseball, only the Cincinnati Reds and Kansas City Royals are worse.
What does this mean for a team trying to hold on to first place in the AL East as they approach the All-Star break?
"Well, they have to get better," Hall of Famer Jim Palmer chuckled during a Glenn Clark Radio interview July 7.
