It's been a frustrating year for elite starting pitchers in fantasy baseball, as many have not lived up to their draft day ranking, and most recently, injuries have occurred to some of the top arms in the game.
Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw landed on the disabled list last week, and now Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Zack Greinke has been placed on the DL with an oblique strain. Greinke will be eligible to come back after the All-Star break, but oblique injuries tend to linger, and there's a chance the ace may not return until the end of the month.
After a slow start to the season, the right-hander has been dominant for fantasy owners, allowing more than three runs in a start twice since the beginning of May. This is another brutal blow for fantasy owners that can't be replaced by anyone on the waiver wire.
