The Orioles won't be spending much time in Baltimore during the next few weeks, but they certainly made their June home finale one to remember.
The Birds completed a four-game sweep of the Tampa Bay Rays, bashing their way to a 12-5 victory during the final game of the series June 26. The O's offense continued its June destruction by racking 17 hits and a dozen runs, outscoring the Rays, 31-14, during the four-game set. The Orioles have scored three or more runs during all 25 games in June, plating six or more runs 14 times.
Rays lefty Drew Smyly represented Tampa Bay's best chance to eke out a win in the series, as he entered the day with dominant career numbers against the Orioles: a perfect 4-0 record with a 1.82 ERA during eight games (five starts). But that version of Smyly was nowhere to be found June 26.
The O's jumped on him right out of the gate. The first three batters reached base, and designated hitter Chris Davis brought them all home -- plus himself -- by smacking a grand slam into the left-field seats. It was Davis' seventh career slam and the Orioles' fourth of the year. Four batters into the game, the Orioles had a 4-0 lead.
