The Orioles announced after their June 18 win over the Toronto Blue Jays that third baseman Manny Machado has dropped his appeal and will begin serving his four-game suspension June 19.
Machado will miss the finale of the three-game set against the Blue Jays, the Birds' makeup game in Texas June 20 and the two-game series against the San Diego Padres June 21-22. He will be eligible to return to the lineup June 24, when the O's start a four-game set against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Machado received the suspension for charging the mound against Kansas City Royals right-hander Yordano Ventura June 7, after Ventura drilled Machado in the back with a fastball. Machado initially appealed the suspension after MLB handed it down June 9, but he ultimately decided it wasn't worth going to a hearing.
"I think MLB thought it was fair what they gave me," Machado said. "I don't think they were going to get it down. … I think we had a good case, but I think they were pretty strong on the four games."
