As former Maryland forward Robert Carter Jr. prepares for the NBA, the projected late first-round/early second-round pick credits Terps head coach Mark Turgeon for getting him there.
"Personally, he just gave me another opportunity," Carter said June 6 on Glenn Clark Radio. "He believed in me, he allowed me to lead his team. He taught me numerous things, taught me how to grow up, how to be a good young man and also just how to win; what winners do.
"[Turgeon] has a winning mentality, and he doesn't accept losing. That was probably the biggest thing I learned from Coach Turgeon. The will to win."
Carter played two seasons at Georgia Tech before transferring to Maryland for his junior year. Per NCAA transfer rules, Carter had to sit out a season before joining the Terps' roster his junior year; however, Carter still worked out with the team.
