School to offer International Baccalaureate education

Monarch Academy Annapolis Campus, a public contract school which will serve students in kindergarten through fifth grades, named Susan Myers principal. Myers, who has more than 20 years of experience in school administration and education, will lead Monarch Academy Annapolis when it opens in fall 2017.

Myers was named a National Distinguished Principal for Maryland in 2014, a national recognition for principals who set high standards for instruction, student achievement, character and climate for the students, families and staffs. In addition, she was appointed to Maryland’s Early Childhood Advisory Council.

She serves on the board for the Maryland Association of Elementary School Principals and represents Maryland in the National Association of Elementary School Principals. Myers holds an administration certificate from Goucher College, a Master of Education in literacy education from Loyola University and a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education from University of Maryland, College Park.

Myers currently serves as principal at Walter S. Mills Parole Elementary School in Annapolis, which uses a project-based learning curriculum to teach students, including half who are English-language learners. Previously, Myers was principal of Annapolis Elementary School.

She also served as assistant principal of Park Elementary and Crofton Woods Elementary schools in Anne Arundel County. In addition, Myers was a behavior specialist at Brooklyn Park Elementary School and taught second and fifth grades at Riviera Beach Elementary School, also in Anne Arundel County.

Monarch Academy in Annapolis will serve students within the attendance boundaries of elementary schools in Annapolis. The school will offer the Primary Years Programme, a component of the International Baccalaureate education, emphasizing trans-disciplinary learning and international-mindedness. In addition, the school will offer integrated arts.

Under her leadership, we’re confident students will develop into creative, critical thinkers and lifelong learners who contribute to the global community,” said Andrew Ross, president and CEO of the TranZed Alliance, which operates Monarch Academy schools in Anne Arundel County.

The organizational philosophy of the school will be Transformation Education (TranZed), which infuses a school’s beliefs and values into the look of the school building, instructional approach, teachers’ mindset and behavior and operating systems.

The TranZed Alliance is a nonprofit organization serving children, families and child-serving organizations and is dedicated to transforming how America educates and cares for its children through education, behavioral health and national training and consultation services.
