The Houston Astros announced they are going to ease off using Luke Gregerson in the ninth inning, which is a nice way of saying the right-hander is no longer the closer. Gregerson blew his fifth save of the season June 4, which has made the team look elsewhere for the time being.
Gregerson battled an oblique injury for much of spring training, which led many to believe he would not even be the closer at the start of the season. However, he was able to get healthy in time but struggled with a 4.56 ERA and those blown saves.
Ken Giles, who many thought would win the job out of spring training, has had his own struggles this season with a 5.55 ERA and 1.56 WHIP but right now seems to be the favorite to take over.
