The Washington Nationals have recalled top-prospect Trea Turner from the minors while first baseman Ryan Zimmerman is on paternity leave. The 22-year-old hit .310 with three homers, 24 RBIs and 17 steals in Triple-A this season and will get another shot at the big leagues after struggling last year in 27 games with the Nationals.
The theme this year with prospects is that they come up for a cup of coffee, then return to the minors. That could be the case with Turner, with Zimmerman only expected to miss a couple of games. I don't understand why teams do this with their top prospects, but that is where we are in fantasy baseball. Turner is more than likely not even available on the waiver wire, but those who have stashed him on their bench for the first two months are hoping this isn't a short stint, as Turner should be able to contribute for fantasy owners.
New York Mets third baseman David Wright will miss an extended period of time with a herniated disc in his neck. Wright missed a lot of time last year with a back injury, so this is another bump in the road for the 33-year-old. The veteran has struggled this season, so hopefully fantasy owners who have Wright have already explored other options at third.
